West Ham United have reportedly offered Declan Rice a new eight-year contract as they try to keep the England international at the club this summer.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Hammers after impressing for both club and country in recent seasons. Chelsea and Manchester United are supposedly keen on the midfielder, who has two years’ left on his current deal at the London Stadium.

However, according to talkSPORT, West Ham are trying to convince Rice to stay by offering him a staggering eight-year contract, which would keep him at the club until 2030. Additionally, the Hammers are willing to pay him around £200k-per-week, making him by far their highest-paid player.

Rice has already turned down a new contract offer by the Hammers, suggesting his long-term future could lie elsewhere. West Ham’s hopes of securing Champions League football slipped beyond their grasps after losing against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final.

The lack of elite European football may convince Rice to seek a move away from West Ham. Since making his first-team debut in 2017, Rice has made almost 200 senior appearances, helping the club to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

David Moyes has previously suggested that a bid in excess of £150million would be needed for the Hammers to sell their prized asset. This would make him the third most-expensive player of all-time behind Neymar following his £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017, and Kylian Mbappe, who joined PSG permanently for £166m from Monaco the following year after an initial loan spell.

TalkSPORT claim Rice’s deal could be made a 10-year one if he wanted, but also added that his camp believe he can get as much as £300-400k-a-week at a so called ‘bigger’ club. Chelsea and the Red Devils have been named as two potential targets for the talented Englishman, while Manchester City could make a late swoop with 37-year-old Fernandinho out of contract this summer.

But this latest saga may have taken another twist when Rice was awarded with the Hammer of the Year at West Ham’s end of season awards on Tuesday. Speaking after winning the top prize, Rice hinted his future remains at West Ham for at least the 2022/23 season.

He spoke of the challenge of leading the club forward after Mark Noble’s retirement and being “ready to go again” in Europe. Rice said: “We’ve proved that we can play in big European games and our fans and our stadium have shown we can handle those big European nights, and that’s what we want more of.

“I’m proud of the lads because we’re not the biggest of squads, so to go week in, week out again and again and again, training and playing Thursdays and Sundays, away from home and away from families has been tough, but in the end we’ve had a great year and we’re ready to go again.”
