Man Utd’s worst ever Premier League season

Erik ten Hag has reportedly identified Reims forward Hugo Ekitike as a transfer target this summer.

The Dutchman will arrive at Old Trafford ready to undertake a huge overhaul of Manchester United’s playing squad, with the club expected to target a new striker. And Ten Hag is thought to be a fan of Ekitike, who could be available for a bargain fee.

It comes as superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a warning following Erik ten Hag’s appointment as United’s next manager. And Steve McClare is set to arrive as Ten Hag’s manager – and he could be a breath of fresh air for United’s underperforming stars.

Ten Hag identifies striker target

Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to bring Hugo Ekitike to Old Trafford this summer.

The young French forward, who has been labelled the “next Kylian Mbappe” has impressed in Ligue 1 this season, where he’s had a more successful conversion rate than incoming Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The striker could well be on the move this season having been linked with the likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea.

But United hope to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature – and he could be available for as little as £13million.

Ronaldo sends warning

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on Erik ten Hag’s pending arrival at Manchester United – and warned the new boss will “need time” to bring the good times back to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag will take up his new role at Old Trafford this summer having wrapped up the Eredivisie title with Ajax. And Portuguese superstar Ronaldo has said he is “happy and excited” that Ten Hag has been appointed as the club’s new boss.

And the United number seven insists “we have to believe that next year we can win titles”.

McClaren’s Man Utd solution

Steve McClaren has clearly been keeping an eye on Manchester United this season – and it could pay dividends with the former England boss set to arrive as Erik ten Hag’s number two.

Ten Hag was McClaren’s assistant during his first time in command of FC Twente in 2008 and their roles could now be reversed with Ten Hag insisting he wants his former boss to join him at Old Trafford. And McClaren would arrive with a clear idea of what’s needed at the club.

Following United’s 4-1 to Man City at the Etihad in March, McClaren went in on the club’s underperforming stars as he said the players had “stopped running for each other”. And Ten Hag’s potential assistant also explained the club “needs to get the bad ones out of the dressing room”.
